About THEATER CALL

Theater CALL was established in 2003 by a group of working Japanese mothers, and has done over 80 performances of audience participation bilingual (English and Japanese) plays with live musical accompaniment for audiences comprised largely of kindergarten through middle school aged children in the hopes of providing an opportunity for Japanese kids and grown-ups alike to experience English in a fun way.
CALL regularly performs at a special school for children with disabilities. In a Korea tour, performances were done in English and Korean.

STORY

三枚のおふだ
THREE LUCKY CHARMS
A young temple boy named Chinnen goes into the mountains to pick some flowers and gets lost. He spends the night at an old woman’s house who turns out to be a Yamanba, a mountain witch hungry for children. Desperate to escape, he uses the three lucky charms his master, the Priest, had given him for protection. Will Chinnen make it back safely to his temple?
Theater CALL’s “Three Lucky Charms” is an adaptation of a traditional Japanese folktale presented as a 2D puppet theater with a little surprise and a special introduction to Japanese culture for the Boston Tour.
