UNDOKAI (FIELD DAY)

Participating grades: Japanese Language Division and Grades 1 through 11
  • The program will be sent home tomorrow (11th) with your child.
  • The Field Day may end earlier if the weather is unsuitable for outdoor activities.
  • Children in grade 3 through grade 11 will be wearing hachimaki. They should also bring hats from home to wear to prevent heat stroke.
  • The 2nd-floor cafeteria will be open during lunchtime for those who wish to eat indoors.
  • Please pick up your child at the designated children’s seating area if your child is leaving early.
  • e-Boston will not be sent next week.

1. Date: May 18, 2019
Attendance will be taken at 8:55 am at the West Soccer Field.
Rain dates are May 25 & June 1.

2. Location: Medford High School West Soccer Field

3. What to bring: (1) Water bottle (2) Grade 1 and Grade 2: Kohakubo (red & white hat) (3) Grade 3 and up: Kohaku Hachimaki (red & white hairband) and hat for sun protection
Kohakubo ($8) and Kohaku Hachimaki ($3) are available for purchase at the school office.
 
4. How to dress: Wear comfortable clothes and footwear for physical activities. (Cleats and spikes are not allowed.)

5. Field day cancellation
  • If the Field Day will be held as scheduled…The school office will post a notification at the “Urgent Announcement” on the school website at 6:00 AM on the Field Day. The notification will be sent to all JLS families via eBoston (email newsletter) also.
  • When it is difficult to decide whether or not to cancel… The school office will post a notification at the “Urgent Announcement” on the school website asking students to prepare for both the Field Day and regular classes. The notification will be sent to all JLS families via eBoston (email newsletter) also.
  • If the Field Day is canceled on the day before the Field Day…The school office will post a notification at the “Urgent Announcement” on the school website after 6:00 PM. The notification will be sent to all JLS families via eBoston (email newsletter) also.
  • If the Field Day is canceled on the day of the Field Day…The school office will post a notification at the “Urgent Announcement” on the school website at 6:00 AM. The notification will be sent to all JLS families via eBoston (email newsletter) also.
6. Requests and notifications from the school office
  • Please park as usual. The road leading to the Main Soccer Field is off-limits. Do not park in the parking spaces for the Main Soccer Field.
  • Please use portable restrooms by the field or restrooms in the building by the school office. To enter the school building, please use the doors to the Japanese library.
  • Please do not enter the field during events for any reason.
  • Please be mindful to not block anyone’s view when you put up your canopies and tents.
  • No pets are allowed on the premises of Medford High School. (Guideline of the City of Medford)
  • Field Day Monitors (Safety Patrols) are not assigned during lunchtime. Please supervise your child during the lunchtime. Please do not let your child play with field day equipment.
  • Please respect our policy on peanuts/nuts and peanut/nut products.
  • Please bring your garbage/trash home afterward.
  • The Japanese Library will be closed.
  • eBoston will not be published on the week of the Field Day.
  • Volunteer opportunities:
(1) Putting up canopies and flags from 7:50 am.
(2) Removing small rocks from the field (to avoid unnecessary injuries). Please come and join us between 8:30 am and 8:50 am. Please bring a plastic bag for rocks.
(3) We are looking for families who can bring canopies from home and put them up in the children’s seating area to provide shades for children in case of very hot weather.
